Hi, I'm Sarah
I understand how devastating and traumatic it can be to go through a breakup, whether it was your decision to leave, or if like me you didn't see your breakup coming. I also believe that your breakup doesn't have to define you. It's what you do about it that matters and you can emerge from this feeling happier and stronger than ever before, ready to say "YES" to a future that you're excited to wake up to again.Â
My story
I did not see my breakup coming and it hit me hard. I was heartbroken and devastated. My husband was my soulmate and best friend and I couldn't imagine a future without him.
I didn’t know anyone who had been through a divorce, so I had no one to talk to who really got what I was going through. I felt like a failure. I'd failed at the thing that mattered most to me in life.
I was stuck for a long time and didn't know how to move on.Â
My head knew I should move on, but my heart couldn’t let go.Â
I felt like I was just existing. There was no passion or excitement in my life.
Â
And then one rainy day in January I ended up at a travel show in Olympia with a friend as didn’t have anything better to do. I’d always loved travel but that had been with my husband.
Whilst I was there, I went to a talk on Wildlife photography and was blown away by the images and the passion of the photographer giving the talk.
I visited his stand afterwards and got talking to him and before I knew it I'd booked a 6 night safari to the Masai Mara in Kenya in June.
And for the first time in years, I felt a flutter of excitement. Even though I didn't even own a camera or had never been away on my own before, let alone shared a tent with someone I'd never met! Â
Kenya was also where we’d got engaged. and I didn’t know if I was strong enough to revisit a place where we’d shared such great memories together.
But I was so fed up being stuck by this time, with my life on hold, that I knew I had to step out of my comfort zone and do something different.
And do you know what... it turned out to be one of the best things I’ve ever done.
I was just Sarah. Not divorced Sarah. No one knew what had gone before and no one was interested. They just accepted me for who I was.
And who I was, was the fun person I’d lost. Sitting around the campfire laughing so much at times my stomach hurt.
But what I also realised was that I didn’t have to do this on my own.
That was just a story I was telling myself.
Because here I was surrounded by people who have since become friends for life.
And in that moment, I knew the key to the future was to stop living in the past and say "YES" to all the opportunities that came my way and embrace my future.
The sense of empowerment that brings is incredible.
Because all of a sudden there were no barriers to what I could do and experience.
Wildlife photography was never even on my radar, but saying yes to that opportunity was the moment my life transformed.Â
I made friends for life, and I've been lucky enough to have had adventures all over the world pursuing my passion.
How did I get here...
I'm an ex Accountant and worked in the corporate world for many years in various roles within Finance and Procurement. The best part of those roles, and what lit me up, was coaching and developing my teams. So when I had the opportunity to take redundancy, I decided to retrain as a coach.
When I discovered divorce coaching I knew it was exactly what I was meant to be doing. I'm so passionate about it because I know it was exactly what I needed when I was going through my own breakup, and I've seen first hand the transformations with my clients.
I had therapy for many years after my breakup, and whilst that has its place, I felt I was going over the same thing every week which was just keeping me stuck in the past. I didn't have the tools and techniques to be able to help myself move on, even though I desperately wanted to.
So now I have my dream 'job' empowering my clients with the tools and strategies they need to fast track through their breakup, so that they can feel stronger than ever, get their spark back and say "YES" to their future.
